Reflections On Cultivating A Purpose-Filled Life

The thoughts in this brief article are designed to be…

Brief enough to be absorbed quickly,
Yet meaningful enough to provoke thoughtful reflection,
And insightful enough to prompt Spirit-led action.

Place the words and concepts below in the framework of “living a purpose-filled life” and respond…

With your wisdom,
According to your current situations in life,
As you reflect on the subject with Jesus.

Ask yourself where you are and where you feel you should be relative to any of the following questions designed to enhance your purpose-filled life quest.

“Am I cultivating the ongoing habit of making first class decisions?”

“Have I considered developing a mission statement?  If so, is it brief enough to state quickly and does it carry with it enough measure of meaning to keep carrying me forward?”

“And what about journaling? Have I considered developing this practice in such a way that does not overwhelm me?  If I had to journal something for just five minutes a day for five days a week, would that be enough?”

“Am I paying attention to my ‘life motivators?’  Meaning: the people, resources and events in my life that could — or should — assist me in my passionate pursuit of a purpose-filled life?

“Where are the practices of prayer and Bible study ‘taking me’ in terms of living an on-purpose lifestyle?”

“What about the ‘daily disciplines’ factor?  Do my daily actions fall into the category of disciplines that assist me in my growth as a ‘living on purpose’ person?”

“Am I doing what I can to create an atmosphere in my home or work environment that assists me in my growth in terms of who I am and who I desire to become?”

“And what about the ‘silence factor?’  Am I utilizing the gift of being able to create ‘havens of rest’ for myself whenever and however possible?”

Following about a three year search for God, Lee trusted Christ as Savior in 1967 as young Marine. He has served as an outreach pastor and a church planter. The Lord also led him to serve as the Director of Internships at Baptist Bible Seminary in Clarks Summit, PA where he served for over 20 years. Lee loves to write, has a strong desire to be a positive influence for Christ in our world, and is passionate about family. And speaking of family, he and his wife Sherry (who served as a Director of Elementary Education for many years and recently retired) praise the Lord for being married 44 years, their 3 daughters and son-laws, and 7 grandchildren! Lee and Sherry would say: "We've been abundantly blessed."
